Things You Need to Know Before You Install a DIY Fence
There are many great things about having a fenced-in property. You can enjoy some privacy from your neighbors, keep your pets contained safely, and let your young children play outside without fear of them running into the street. If you are interested in having a fence in your yard and are somewhat handy, you can choose to go the DIY fence route. However, before you start getting out your tools, there are a few things you need to do before you install your DIY fence.
- Make it legal- Getting your property line surveyed and marked by a professional should be your first step. If you are even slightly off on your fence line, your neighbors can legally make you tear it down and re-build it at your expense. You’ll also need to check with your local ordinances, since some areas put restrictions on height, fencing materials, and other details.
- Get the right tools- When you build a DIY fence, many people don’t realize how much digging is involved. Digging post holes is no easy task, so renting a gasoline-powered auger drill might just save your back as well as your time. You may also need a post level, drill, nail gun, or hammer.
- Ask for help- Once your posts are in, your DIY fence can be built rather quickly, but you’ll need a helping hand to move and balance the pieces properly.
