Fence 101

Before you buy...

Before you invest in your yard improvement project, be sure to cover all the bases to ensure you get the fence that is right for you.

Before you begin selecting your style, we recommend educating yourself of the restrictions that may apply in your subdivision, city, or county. It is the homeowner's responsibility to get the Homeowners Association's (HOA) approval. What fence heights are acceptable? What style, color or quality is acceptable? Are there any easements, wetlands or other restrictions that you should be aware of before installation begins?

Get a copy of your property survey/plot plan. Property pins need to be located to ensure your fence is placed on your property. If a copy of the survey is not available, as the homeowner you will need to sign a release accepting responsibility for the fence location. It is customary for the fence to run 4 to 6 inches inside the property line.

Is the proposed fence line clear? Are there any bushes, trees or roots to work around? An ideal work zone is about 36" clearance in all directions.

What about utility lines? Danielle Fence takes responsibility for locating your utility lines and getting the proper permits. We will have a utility locator come out to your home to mark electrical lines, cable TV lines, phone lines, and gas lines. The utility locate company will not locate sprinkler or water lines, sewer lines or any lines that you may have installed on your own. This includes gas lines for a pool heater or electric line for a pool or water-well pump. Please be sure to know where you have added additional lines and let us know before installation. Danielle Fence will not assume any responsibility to damage of these lines during installation.

Warranty... be sure the fence you choose will be there for the next generation.

Know your brand and it's warranty. Carefully understand the terms and conditions of the warranty, including registration, exclusions (things not covered by the warranty) and what to do if you need to make a claim. Know the manufacturer and the products you purchased. Understand that just because a product has a "warranty" does not ensure that you are covered. The best warranty is the one you will never have to use! In more than 20 years in direct partnership with Nebraska Plastics and Country Estate™, there has been not one warranty claim! Does it surprise you that Nebraska Plastics, the originator of the white PVC/Vinyl fence known as Country Estate™ is so confident in the lasting quality of their product that they will honor a competitor's warranty?
